Aid for El Maguey
El Maguey is a neighborhood in the city of Atotonilco, Mexico where our little sister church Cristo Vive is located. The people of El Maguey have been especially hard hit during this pandemic. They aren’t able to work, lack medical care access, and were hit by a tornado in June.
Cristo Vive wants to stand up to help the community but they need help from their sister church, San Jose First United Methodist, to help those who need it the most. We have sent financial aid to help them feed the community and repair the extensive tornado damage in the town. But we want to do more.
Looking after the people who live in El Maguey is a long-term need. Please donate any monetary donations you can. Send your check, made out to FUMCatSJ, to the church at 24 N 5th St, San Jose, CA 95112. Please label it “El Maguey” in the memo line.
Open Pantry is an ongoing ministry that assists hungry neighbors to have enough to eat. Normally, volunteers meet Wednesdays at 11:30am to help bag the groceries and/or deliver the groceries to local people in need. But because of Covid-19, Ray has arranged to receive food donations from Second Harvest to cover the Open Pantry families. Contact Ray Castellon for more details.
To contribute financially to this program, send checks made out to San Jose First with “Open Pantry” on the memo line to: San Jose First United Methodist Church, 24 North 5th Street, San Jose, CA 95112

LGBTQ Youth Space
Youth Space is an organization in our neighborhood that provides services to LGBTQIA youth. We have a partnership with them and have an ongoing request for donations. Items can be placed in the bin near our Welcome table outside the Sanctuary.
We’re collecting individual non-perishable microwaveable snacks: mac & cheese, oatmeal, ramen noodles, soups, etc.
Kari has a catalog that has specific needed supplies. If you’d like to make a monetary donation toward ordering these supplies, please put it in the offering with the label “Youth Space.”
